The West Catholic Enigma Riddlers, team 5385 started their season at the Canton qualifier. Their unique robot design earned them the Innovate Award. This award is given to a team that has a robot that demonstrates an elegant design, robustness and ‘out of the box’ thinking. They were also nominated for the Inspire Award at the Canton qualifier and again at the FTC Michigan Championship, which is FTC’s highest honor. This award is given to a team that embodies the spirit of FIRST. The nomination at the Canton qualifier earned them the advancement to the State Championship and the nomination at the state level has advanced this inspiring team to the North Super Regional tournament in Iowa on March 17th – 19th. The State of Michigan advances 13 FTC teams to the North Super Regionals in Iowa. In Iowa, they will compete for a spot at the FIRST Worlds Championship in St. Louis, MO. West Catholic Enigma Robotics proudly boast that they are sending two of the 13 teams advancing to Iowa to represent the State of Michigan.

Super Regionals 3/17-3/19

The West Catholic Enigma Puzzlers, team 5391 also started their season with their season at the Canton qualifier. At the end of the qualifying matches 5391 was the first place alliance captain. The Enigma Puzzlers, together with their sister team , the Enigma Riddlers, finished the day in 2nd place as the Finalist Alliance for the Canton Qualifier. Team 5391 was awarded the Connect Award at the Canton qualifier and then again at the Kentwood qualifier. This award is given to a team that displays clear examples of connecting with the engineering, science or technology community. This award advanced them to state competition. At the Kentwood qualifier the Enigma Puzzlers finished on the Winning Alliance. This and the Connect Award advanced them to the State Championship. At the State Championship, 5391 was awarded The Control Award. This award celebrates at team that uses sensors and software to enhance a robots functionality on the field. Team 5391 will be advancing to the North Super Regionals in Iowa along with their sister team, the Enigma Riddlers—team 5385.
