In 1989, Dean Kamen founded FIRST, which is the acronym “For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology.” His vision is “to transform our culture by creating a world where science and technology are celebrated and where young people dream of becoming science and technology leaders“.
The mission of FIRST is “to inspire young people to be science and technology leaders, by engaging them in exciting mentor-based programs that build science, engineering and technology skills, that inspire innovation, and that foster well-rounded life capabilities including self-confidence, communication, and leadership.” FIRST engages the passion and energy of kids of all ages, including students and mentors, to solve a given robotics challenge in a given span of time.
Enigma 2075 is primarily involved in the FIRST Robotics Competition also known as FRC for high school-aged students, though we also support two FIRST Tech Challenge (FTC) teams at the middle school level . Thousands of teams compete nationally at numerous competitions, doing so in the FIRST spirit of Gracious Professionalism and Cooperation.
